About UHF

The umbrella body for Uganda’s non-state health sector.

A registered membership association, limited by guarantee, founded in 2010 to champion the interests of the private health sector.

Mandate

One informed partner through whom to engage the private health sector.

UHF lobbies, advocates, campaigns, mobilises and mediates for the private sector. It offers government, health development partners and sector stakeholders an informed partner, and carries contract and programme activities to the grassroots through its member associations.

Vision

To be the representing, reference and advocacy body for the non-state health sector in Uganda.

Mission

To bring all private (non-state) sector stakeholders under one umbrella body for the purpose of advocating policy change, promoting and championing the interests of the private health sector.

Core values

Professionalism and integrity
Innovative and results focused
Committed for the long term
Why UHF exists

A fragmented sector needed one voice.

Some 5,000 private health providers and over 40,000 health professionals were loosely grouped in numerous associations. Without one voice, the sector was left out of Ministry of Health and development partner programmes, and out of policy consultations.

The Uganda Healthcare Federation was formed in 2010 to answer that.

Objectives

What the Federation sets out to do.

01

Be an all-inclusive membership association that represents all non-state health sector players in Uganda.

02

Contribute to the development of health sector legislation and policy.

03

Offer ongoing, valuable member services.

04

Establish a network of health sector working relationships.

05

Implement contracts that support and enhance the Uganda health sector.

Governance

Board members.

The membership structure gives the various membership bodies a seat on the Federation’s board, so that no interest group goes unrepresented.

The secretariat runs UHF’s programmes and gives secretariat services to member associations.
